With the flows on the Yakima starting to go up, we’re expecting it to be out for 2 or 3 weeks. This is a great opportunity to explore some of the awesome lake fishing opportunities we have here in Central Washington! We recommend checking out Frio Rito, Mattoon, and Linice Lakes, but there are tons in our area.
Spring is arguably the best time to fish lakes since fish are moving up a bit shallower and feeding on leeches, small bait, and swimming nymphs. Although chironomid fishing can also be great this time of year, stripping buggers, damsels, and dragonfly nymphs can be very effective and a bit more fun.
Just remember to stick to intermediate, or sink tip lines for better presentations. If you’re fishing with just a floating line, we recommend getting a couple polyleaders to help get the fly down a little bit.
