May 28th, 2018 Yakima River Fishing Report

The Yak has dropped quite a bit as we predicted it would, and things are looking pretty good for fishing! Our guides have had some good days throwing nymphs and streamers, but not a whole lot of dry fly action yet.

For streamers, stick to Muddlers, Lil Kim's, Sparkle Minnows, and sculpins, with as heavy of a polyleader as you can cast. As far as nymphs, best reports we've gotten were with a size 12 CDC prince nymph, but lightning bugs, peasant tails, copper johns, and hares ears with a bead head will all work. Anywhere from a size 10 to a 16, and fishing them below a stonefly nymph is the best way to go.

PLEASE NOTE: For anyone wanting to use the state boat launch, it has gotten tough to launch/take out due to the side channel pushing out a ton of water. There is also a log jam just below the launch, so make sure that you take the right channel just before the logs to go around it. If you want to fish that section, we'd recommend launching at Hansen and taking out at Bristol.

Feel free to call the shop with any questions!
