May 3rd, 2019 – Weekend Fishing Forecast

This weather this weekend is looking phenomenal, and with the water on the Yakima staying low and clear through Cle Elum and along highway 10, it’s looking to be the perfect weekend to get out and wade the river.

Fishing has stayed pretty consistently good through the mornings and afternoons, but its dying off a bit in the evenings. Through the morning, nymphing with a stone and a pheasant has remained the most effective. Other bugs like prince nymphs, lightning bugs and hare’s ears will do the trick as well.

Right around 12:30 – 1ish, the March Brown hatch has remained incredible. Lots of fish have been keying in on these large mayflies in tailouts and riffles keeping things exciting through the Spring. We have a large variety of bugs to imitate them, so stop by the shop and check them out!

We’re also starting to see a couple caddis flying around. Not much for big numbers yet or fish keying in on them, but a prince nymph is a great way to imitate these guys.

For options besides the Yakima this weekend, the lakes through the Columbia Basin and Rocky Ford have been great this spring. Damsel nymphs and chironomids have been the best producers, as well as leeches and scuds. We just got in a fresh order of lake flies, including damsels, scuds and balance leeches, so be sure to stop by and check them out before your next lake trip!

As well as lakes producing some great trout fishing, the bass have been starting to look up a bit more and should hitting top water in the evenings with the warmer weather showing up. As well as poppers, we also got in some killer crayfish patterns that are sure to get the attention of some big bass.

We’ve just made it easier for you guys to get shuttles! Here’s a link to the new Shuttle Service page.

As usual, if you have nay questions then feel free to call the shop!
