As you could probably guess, everything is up to Summer time flows and we’re fishing summer time bugs! Hoppers and Stones are out and about and the big fish have been chowing down on them! The only downside is that wading below the confluence of the Cle Elum is pretty difficult, but there are still some areas off highway 10 that are accessible.
For flies, Gypsy Kings, Chubbies, and any kind of hopper has been effective. They’ll take natural tan, brown or golden, or they’ll eat royal, purple, red, pink….. rainbow, really about any color will work as long as it has the right profile.
We’ve been throwing a dropper off our dries and highly recommend anything that’s jigged. Jigged Hare’s ears, Brush Hogs, Pheasant Tails and Duracell’s have all been great for us. Any of these bugs fished below a stone and an indicator would also be effective.
Streamers have been a great way to filter out the smaller fish. Flies like Lil Kims and Sculpzillas thrown on a sink tip or under and indicator have been the way to go. We recommend using a 6 wt. rod for these bigger flies to you help you out with our Summer wind.
For anyone looking to book guided trips this Summer, we recommend booking as soon as possible to get the date you want before the calendar fills up!
