Sorry to fake you out with a picture of a nice fish, but the river is not in good condition at all for the time being. A mix of rain and snow melt has the Yakima and its tributaries moving a ton of dirty water and we really don’t recommend fishing it for at least the next few days.
We’ll keep you posted on when the river drops, but most likely scenario is that it won’t drop to a nice level until the really cold snowy days coming up through next week, with a few days getting in to the low teens at night. Hopefully we see some fishable conditions by the weekend for the upper river.
As for some other options to fish, it’s not a bad idea to make the drive out to Rocky Ford this time of year. We really like the streamer action, but you can also throw some small midges, chironomids and scuds.
