Patagonia Fishing Packs

Summer is rapidly closing in on us and chucking big dries on your favorite streams is only weeks away. Now is the time to make sure that you have all the correct gear for your walk and wade excursions, and that’s never complete without the right pack! Here’s a little guide to help you pick out the Patagonia pack that is best for your walk and wade adventure.

Patagonia Vest Front Sling - $99.00

Being the cheapest of the packs that we carry, The Patagonia Vest Front Sling is going to be one of the best packs for your simple afternoon and evening on the water. The “vest” portion of the pack stays out of your way while also having enough storage for the things you should always carry and need in reach. By that, I mean a small-medium fly box, nippers, forceps, indicators, floatant, spilt shots, and even your phone. This then leaves the back portion of the back free to stuff with snacks, water, sunscreen, and extra flies and gear.

The only downside to this pack is that it isn’t waterproof, but that’s what helps to keep the price down.

Patagonia Stealth Atom Sling - $119.00

Very similar to the Vest Front Sling, but this pack doesn’t have the large amount of storage on the strap. It does, however, have a compartment with foam to fit all your flies for the day. This then frees up extra space in the bag to pack everything else you need. There is a pouch on the strap that has plenty of space for your phone, and a spot to attach zingers so you can have your forceps and nippers in reach.

Again, this bag also isn’t waterproof, but overall for $119.00 you’re getting an amazing day pack.

Patagonia Sweet Vest Pack - $199.00

The name gives you a great description of this pack. It’s sweet! Not only is it great for your everyday walk and wade fishing, but if you want to hike in a bit further, maybe up to some of the mountain lakes, then it will cover you for that as well.

The concept is a bit different. It’s a very adjustable backpack and vest in one, but with some quick switching around you can take off the backpack portion and use just the vest, or even use just the backpack. It has al the storage you need for a day on the water and would be paired amazingly with a pair of Patagonia’s new packable waders.

Again, this one is not waterproof. We also recommend that you get a chance to either watch some videos on it’s functions, or just come in the shop and we can give you a better idea of how it’s set up.

Patagonia Storm Front Sling – $199.00

If you prefer to carry a bit more extra gear with you, the Storm Front Sling is exactly what you need. It has plenty of room for not only your fly gear but even a lunch, and an extra jacket. Just like everything is Patagonia’s Storm Front line, it’s fully water proof.

This makes it one of the better steelheaders bags for the Peninsula, and the fact that it’s a sling pack allows you to switch the strap between shoulders for less strain. The sling also allows you to attach your tools right where you need them while they also stay out of your way.

Patagonia Storm Front Hip Pack – $229.00

Quite possibly the best pack for the minimalist fisherman, this fully water proof hip pack has room for everything you need. Throw a water bottle, light rain jacket, box of flies, leaders tippets, and all your other gear, all in a very reachable position.

It’s also fully waterproof making it one of the best back for steelheaders. Winter steelheading (especially on the peninsula) calls for a lot of hiking and a lot of rain, making packing light to keep up your energy very important. The fact that it’s a hip pack also takes a ton of strain off your back and shoulders, and since it is waterproof you don’t have to worry about it when you’re wading up to the brim of your waders to get the correct presentation.

It’s still the perfect pack for walk and wade trout fishing as well. I find that I’m able to stay a bit cooler in the hot summer months, while still being able to carry the essentials I need, while they’re also easy to reach and stay out of my way.

Patagonia Storm Front Backpack – $299.00

If you’re like most of us and like to be prepared for whatever the fishing throws at you during your walk and wade trips, then the Storm Front Backpack is what you’re looking for. Not only is it great because it’s fully waterproof, but it has an incredible amount of storage to make you sure you have everything you need, all the time. This makes it great not only for fishing, but for any other outdoor activities you’ll be doing Overall, this is one of the best outdoors backpacks that you’ll find on the market.
